Mississippi Braves News Release
The Braves are trailing in the first game of the series vs Montgomery, 4-2. After a one hour rain delay, the game was suspended in the bottom of the eighth.
Montgomery took a 2-0 lead in the fourth when Michael Coleman blasted his second homer of the year over the bullpen in left field.
Mississippi tied the score in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs in the inning, Gregor Blanco ripped his second double of the night and his ninth double of the year bringing Michael Rosamond to the plate to cut the lead in half. Josh Arteaga then singled to left bringing Blanco to the plate with the game-tying run.
The Biscuits retook the lead in the eighth when Chairon Isenia reached on an infield single. Jeremy Owens then laid down a sacrifice bunt but Jarrod Saltalamacchia overthrew Josh Arteaga covering first and both runners moved up a base. After Elliot Johnson walked to load the bases, Jason Pridie hit a sacrifice fly to left that brought Isenia to the plate with the go-ahead run. Jeremy Owens then scored on a ground ball that was mishandled by Yunel Escobar, giving Montgomery a 4-2 lead.
Braves' starter Daniel Curtis (7.1 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 2 K, 1 HR) pitched well but couldn't get his second consecutive win. Glenn Tucker (0.2 IP) allowed two runs to score in the eighth.
Tonight's game will be concluded at 7:05 pm tomorrow night before the start of tomorrow night's regularly scheduled game. Mississippi is down 4-2 with a runner on first with two outs in the bottom of the eighth. The full nine inning game must be concluded.
The Braves and the Biscuits play game two of this series tomorrow night at 7:05 pm. RHP Sean White takes the hill for Mississippi while Montgomery counters with righty Tony Peguero.
