Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

Salisbury, Md.- The Shorebirds rebounded from their 15-inning Saturday night defeat to shut out the GreenJackets 2-0 on Sunday evening behind the masterful start from Luis Noel. Noel earned his ninth win of the season, tied for second most in the South Atlantic League, with seven sensational innings on the hill. Reliever Brian Parker pitched a scoreless eighth, paving the way for Mick Mattaliano's perfect ninth and his 21st save of the season.

Offensively, the Shorebirds were limited to just seven hits, but the two Matts at the top of the order came through in the clutch. After leadoff hitter Matt Angle tripled with one out in the third, the #2 man in the order, Matt Tucker, singled him home to put the Shorebirds on top 1-0. An inning later, Matt Angle's sacrifice fly plated Jason White from third base to give the Shorebirds a 2-0 lead. White finished 2-3 with a run scored, while Angle and Tucker each finished with a hit, a walk, an RBI, and most importantly, a win for Delmarva.

With the win, the Shorebirds improved to 5-2 on the homestand that has now featured a pair of shutouts from the pitching staff. Delmarva now has four shutouts this season has allowed just 14 total runs in the first seven games of this eight-game homestand.

The Birds will wrap up the homestand against the GreenJackets on Monday night at 7:05. Following an off-day on Tuesday, Delmarva hits the road for an eight-game road trip to Asheville and Hickory.
