
Biloxi Walks off Smokies in Ninth, 4-3

Biloxi, Miss. - The Tennessee Smokies (30-23) missed an opportunity to take sole possession of first place in the Southern League North Wednesday night at MGM Park as they fell to the Biloxi Shuckers (24-27) 4-3 in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the ninth. With the loss, the Smokies dropped a half-game behind first-place Rocket City.
The Shuckers' first three batters reached to start the bottom of the ninth against Kyle Johnson (L, 3-1). Yeison Coca led off the frame with a single and came in to score on Felix Valerio's RBI sacrifice fly.
The Smokies opened the scoring in the top of the second on Chase Strumpf's eleventh home run of the season. After Biloxi took a 3-1 lead in the fourth, Tennessee rallied for two runs in the seventh on Bradlee Beesley's RBI double and a run-scoring groundout off the bat of Yonathan Perlaza.
LHP Dalton Stambaugh allowed three earned runs over four innings of work in his third start as a Smokie. Samuel Reyes and Danis Correa eached worked two shutout innings out of the bullpen to keep the Smokies within striking distance, but they could not get past Zach Vennaro (W, 1-0), who earned the win in relief.
The Smokies will play the third game of their six-game set against the Shuckers Thursday night at MGM Park in Biloxi, Mississippi. First pitch is set for 7:35 p.m. ET when the Smokies send RHP Max Bain (1-2, 7.16) to the mound against RHP Noah Zavolas (0-1, 8.04).
