Bighorns Handle Vipers at 2012 NBA D-League Showcase

RENO, NEV., Jan. 9, 2012 - Marcus Morris brought lottery credentials. Andre Emmett and Blake Ahearn left with the winning ticket.
Emmett, a former second-round pick (2004), who played sparingly in the NBA before heading overseas, scored 36 points, while Ahearn added 26 points and 12 assists, as the hometown Reno Bighorns (9-9) defeated the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, 116-99.
"A lot went right for us tonight," said Ahearn, the NBA D-League's leading scorer (25.4 ppg) and a two-time NBA call-up. "When you have a bunch of guys clicking on the same page that know how to play, it's fun to be out there."
Emmett shot 16-for-23 from the field, and also had nine rebounds and a game-high five steals. There's no mystery to his game. He's a stone cold scorer. There's little doubt he left many lucrative offers overseas to take another shot at the NBA.
Morris, on assignment from the Houston Rockets, finished with 24 points on 10-for-27 shooting, to go with nine rebounds. Willie Warren, a former second-round pick of the Los Angeles Clippers, added 14 points.
It's not hard to see why Morris was selected by the Rockets with the 14th overall pick of the 2011 NBA Draft. At 6-9, he's skilled offensively and can impact a game with his athleticism. He's currently on the Patrick Patterson plan. In 2010, the Rockets selected Patterson with the 14th overall pick, sent him to Rio Grande Valley early on to gain experience, and by season's end he was a regular part of the rotation.
Reno plays again Wednesday against Iowa. The Vipers (11-8) return to action Thursday against Springfield.
