Bighorns Add Two for Playoff Push

January 5, 2006 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Helena Bighorns News Release

The Helena Bighorns have added a couple of proven players yesterday, designed to give the team a boost as they make their 2nd half run at the divisional leaders. In the morning, the Bighorns added defenseman Greg Curtiss from the Flint Jr. Generals of the Central States Hockey League. Curtiss, also a native of flint, posted impressive numbers this year, putting up 7 goals, 18 assists for 25 points in just 22 games.

The second move of the day was a doozie. The Big Blue acquired 3 year NAHL veteran, Anthony Cosmano. Cosmano was playing for the Chicago Steel in the USHL and when he was dropped from their list, he was in contact with Bighorn President, Mike Butters. "Cosmano wanted a chance to show colleges he is ready and to do that he needed playing time. He will get that here." Butters added, "He (Cosmano) was a big reason we couldn't get by Billings last year in the playoffs. When he became available, we naturally jumped at the opportunity."

It didn't take either player long to make the transition to Helena as both players practiced with their new team mates today. The team will depart Helena at 4:00 pm today for their 10 day road trip to Alaska.

Other Bighorn News

To make room for the 2 new Bighorns, the team returned Corey Sheehan to the Queen City Cutthroats on Wednesday. "Corey played very well for us," said Butters. "I expect to see him challenge for a spot next year.

The current Bighorn roster sits at 25 players, the NAHL's maximum. With last week's announcement that the ‘Horns will be calling up Joe Tolles for the duration of the season, expect at least one more player move prior to the January 15th roster freeze. When asked if the Bighorns roster is set, Butters replied, "It will be set on the 15th. I am not saying we will make any more moves, but you never know. However, with us being in Alaska for the next 10 days, I expect my phone to be very quiet."
