Altoona Curve News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY - A five-run, five hit attack combined with solid pitching from Donnie Veal and Daniel Moskos proved to be plenty for the Altoona Curve as they were able to snap a six-game losing streak with a 6-1 win over the Binghamton Mets (AA - New York Mets) at NYSEG Stadium on Saturday night.

The Curve (61-79) jumped out early against the B-Mets (53-85) and southpaw starter Mike Antonini. Jonel Pacheco doubled home Brian Friday to give Altoona an early 1-0 edge. Pacheco would finish the night 2-for-4 with a pair of two-baggers. Pacheco now has a season-high 10-game hitting streak and has recorded multiple hits in nine straight games.

Binghamton would knot the score 1-1 in the bottom of the third before Altoona sent nine men to the plate in the fifth inning. Steve Lerud belted a two-run home run, his fourth of the season, to start the inning off before Friday followed up with an RBI single that plated Shelby Ford. Gorkys Hernandez would then drive in a pair of runs with a single.

Veal made his seventh appearance and fifth MLB rehab start for Altoona and tossed 2.0 scoreless innings allowing just one hit, striking out two and walking one.

Moskos would come on in a piggy-back role and allow just one run over 6.0 innings of work striking out five batters to earn the victory. Moskos' 11 wins ties Yoslan Herrea for the team lead in victories and are the most since Luis Munoz recorded 12 victories in 2007. The 11 victories are fourth most in franchise history in a single-season.

The Curve and B-Mets will meet for the third game of the four-game set on Sunday night at 6:35 p.m. RHP Derek Hankins (3-4, 4.61) will toe the rubber for the Altoona Curve while Binghamton will counter with RHP Jenrry Mejia (0-5, 4.89). Coverage will begin at 6:20 p.m. on flagship station ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and Altoona Curve Radio Network affiliate stations.
