Florida Seals News Release
ORLANDO - The Orlando Seals entertained their second largest home crowd of the season Saturday by crushing the visiting Jacksonville Barracudas 7-1 and improving to 24-10 on the season. A crowd of 4,566 was in attendance on NASCAR Night, which was sponsored by Richard Petty Driving Experience and NASCAR Café, as the Seals avenged Friday night's 4-3 loss at Jacksonville.
Last week first-place Orlando (46 points) defeated Cape Fear in a shootout Thursday, and then split a two-game series with in-state rival Jacksonville as each team won on its home ice on back-to-back nights.
In honor of NASCAR Night, the Seals wore black-and-red racing-themed jerseys with a checkered flag design. The Seals game-worn jerseys drew $7,600 at auction as Orlando fans started a bidding frenzy for the one-time, limited edition uniforms. Twenty-three jerseys, including Coach Stan Drulia's and mascot Sealvester's, were up for bid throughout the Seals' first NASCAR Night.
Orlando Hits the Road
The Seals kick off a three-game road trip Friday when they travel to Fayetteville, N.C., to play the Cape Fear FireAntz (15-21) at 7:30 p.m. Orlando leads the series with Cape Fear 5-1.
On Saturday, the Seals play at Knoxville (19-15) at 7:35 p.m. in a matchup of the top two teams in the league. The season series between the two teams has been a close one with the past three games being decided by one goal each, including an overtime decision (2-1 Knoxville) and a shootout (3-2 Orlando). The Seals, who have yet to win in Knoxville, have won the past two games against the Ice Bears.
On Sunday, Orlando plays at Macon (13-20) at 6:30 p.m. The Seals are 6-2 vs. the Trax. Saturday and Sunday's games will be broadcast on WORL-AM 660. All three road games this week will be broadcast on the web at www.irn.fm/sealsradio.htm.
3 Seals Scorers Rank in ACHL Top 10
Orlando captain Zac Boyer continues to lead the league in scoring with 53 points (19 goals, 34 points) despite playing in 11 fewer games than his nearest challenger, Cape Fear's Peter Cermak, who has 48 points (16 G, 32 A). Boyer has missed nine games this season, including Orlando's past four, with a groin injury.
Forwards Louis Goulet and Joe Seroski also rank among the top 10 scorers in the league. Goulet, a rookie out of Mercyhurst College, is sixth overall with 43 points (11 G, 32 A). Seroski, a sixth-year pro, is 10th with 40 points (13 G, 27 A).
Two more Seals are in the second half of the league's top 20. Forward Janis Tomans (34 points), who had two goals in Orlando's 7-1 win against Jacksonville on Saturday, is 14th in the ACHL, and defenseman Mark White (31) is 20th. White's six goals and 25 assists rank him third among defensemen in scoring and second in assists.
