Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
Join us this weekend for a pair of home games as the Mudbugs will take on two division rivals and have a chance to clinch first place in the Northern Conference for the 2008 CHL Playoffs. Only four more home games remain this season, so you won't want to miss Bossier-Shreveport battling Texas on Friday night and Mississippi on Saturday night at the CenturyTel Center .
Friday night's game against the Brahmas will also feature a puck giveaway from Moe's Southwest Grill. The first 1,000 fans to visit the Moe's table on the main concourse will receive coupons for: a free Moe's/Mudbugs puck (can be redeemed at either of the Moe's Southwest Grill locations in Shreveport-Bossier), a chance to win a "Meal with a Mudbug" (where the winning entrant and two friends will win the chance to eat a free meal at Moe's along with their favorite Mudbugs player), and a 2-for-1 discounted meal at either Moe's location.
The Mudbugs and Brahmas will meet for the tenth time this year on Friday night in an important game with playoff implications. A win would lock up the number one seed in the Northern Conference for the Mudbugs, who will also be trying to draw even in their season series with Texas . The Brahmas are right in the thick of a Northern Conference playoff race that currently has four teams separated by just three points in the standings. Bossier-Shreveport is the only team to clinch a playoff spot so far in the North, so every point matters for Texas , who will be in fourth place in the conference with six games left entering Friday night.
On Saturday night, a number of events are planned as the Mudbugs will again collide with division rival Mississippi . It will be another chance for you to help us pack the CenturyTel Center with five dollar upper deck tickets available for just the second time this season!
This night will be the first of three trading card giveaway nights when the first 3,000 fans inside CenturyTel Center will receive the first set of seven trading cards featuring the 2007-2008 Mudbugs. The trading cards are sponsored by Boomtown Casino and Hotel and new sets will also be distributed on March 21st and 22nd. Keep a lookout for more information on the Boomtown trading card giveaway.
The Mudbugs will be wearing their specialty St. Patrick's Day jerseys brought to you by Karnes Chiropractic during Saturday night's game to celebrate the holiday coming up on Monday. You can own one of these one of a kind St. Patrick's Day sweaters with a game-worn jersey auction to take place right after the game.
Saturday night is also 4-H night, as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of 4-H in Louisiana by welcoming in clubs from all around the Ark-La-Tex. This special night is dedicated to the educational program of the LSU AgCenter and will showcase 4-H members from around Louisiana with special activities and giveaways.
You can learn about ways to help out in the local community on Saturday night as well by visiting Community Renewal's informational table and talking with staff and volunteers who will be on hand. A silent auction will also be held, giving fans the chance to win a hockey stick autographed by the Mudbugs' players. All proceeds will benefit the inner-city work of Community Renewal, and copies of the book "The House that Love Built," will also be on sale. It is the inspirational story of Habitat for Humanity founder Millard Fuller.
Saturday's game will break a 5-5 tie in the season series between the Mudbugs and RiverKings. Mississippi is currently outside the Northern Conference playoffs, sitting one point behind Youngstown for the fifth and final playoff spot in the North. The RiverKings will be in playoff mode on Saturday against the top team in the CHL, needing wins to guarantee themselves a spot in the postseason. The Bugs could potentially lock up their second consecutive Governor's Cup regular season championship on Saturday with a win and a Laredo loss on Friday.
