Big Claw backs the Red Claws!
October 13, 2010 - NBA G League (G League)
Maine Celtics News Release
PORTLAND, Maine - In a perfect pairing, Big Claw wine, developed especially to complement Maine lobster, is now a corporate sponsor of the Maine Red Claws, the NBA Development League team based in Portland. This fine wine will be served at the Red Claws' games and portions of the sales will directly benefit The Lobster Institute at the University of Maine, which is dedicated to the sustainability of the Maine lobster industry.
"This is yet another example of Maine's âlobster culture' working together in support of the industry," says Mainer Steve Melchiskey, a co-founder of Big Claw. "Part of our mission is to give back to Maine's lobstermen, and this is an excellent chance for us to increase that donation. We also are proud to support the Red Claws. Go team!"
Big Claw, which donates portions of all its sales to The Lobster Institute, works closely with the Maine Lobster Promotion Council to cross-promote wine and Maine lobster throughout New England. The wine will be featured at the upcoming Harvest on the Harbor food and wine festival, specifically at the popular Maine Lobster Chef of the Year Competition, on Oct. 22 in Portland.
Big Claw got its start in 2009 when leading Maine wine and food professionals deemed it to be the "perfect wine for lobster." The white wine is a delicious blend of Grenache Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and Gewurztraminer.
"The Maine Red Claws pride ourselves on partnering with Maine companies to serve Maine products in our arena whenever possible," said Maine Red Claws President and General Manager Jon Jennings. "We are pleased that by making Big Claw wine available at Maine Red Claws game, we are able to not only provide our fans with an exceptional product but also to contribute to the lobstering industry in Maine."
Big Claw is distributed in Maine by Mariner Beverages Inc. of Portland. For more information about Big Claw, visit http://site.bigclawwine.com/.
