Big Bats, Big Skill Coming to Victoria in Four Latest Signings

VICTORIA, B.C. - Chances are the next wave of fan favourites in HarbourCats uniforms will come from the latest signings by Head Coach Todd Haney and GM Curtis Pelletier.

The West Coast League team is excited to add two infielders and two outfielders to the roster for the 2022 season, slated to start at Wilson's Group Stadium at RAP on May 31 with a visit from the cross-straight rival Port Angeles Lefties.

Infielder Luke Cheng from Illinois State, veteran infielder Cole Posey from New Mexico, and a pair of outfielders in Joseph Redfield (Sam Houston commit) and Clark Henry (U Texas-San Antonio commit) are the latest players who will spend their summer as HarbourCats.

Posey's addition continues the Texas influence since Haney took over as head coach for the 2019 season. From Georgetown, TX, the switch-hitting Posey was a top recruit to Boise State until that program closed during the COVID pandemic. Posey played briefly for the Ridgefield Raptors in the WCL in 2019. The scouting report is short -- hits, and can fly. Ranks top five all time in stolen bases in Texas 5A high school history with 109 swiped bags, and was first-team all-state as a shortstop in his senior year.

Redfield, from Waco, TX, is considered one of the top junior college outfielders in the country at Temple, where he will spend this spring before moving to D1 Sam Houston, and brings a powerful lefty swing. And, there are bloodlines -- father Joe Redfield played in the big leagues for the California Angels and Pittsburgh Pirates in the late 80s and early 90s.

Cheng, a right-handed hitter, becomes the first HarbourCats player from Maryland, hailing from Olney, MD. A slick defender, he started 22 games as a freshman in a shortened season due to the pandemic, but is a trusted glove with offensive potential for Redbirds Head Coach Steve Holm.

From Houston, Henry is an athletic right-handed hitter who is playing JUCO at Temple, and will be moving to the D-1 level with the same program - University of Texas San Antonio - that produced 2019 HarbourCats slugger Griffin Paxton. Henry has been named all-state at both third base and designated hitter, and hit .381 with five home runs in 46 games at Temple, also stealing eight bases.

The HarbourCats will begin their 2022 West Coast League campaign with their Home Opener on Tuesday May 31, 2022 at 6:35 pm against the Port Angeles Lefties, the first of 34 home games that will be played at Wilson's Group Stadium at Royal Athletic Park.

Fans holding unused tickets or flex-pack vouchers from the cancelled 2020 and 2021 seasons may also now exchange these for tickets for any 2022 regular season game. This can be done at the HarbourCats office.
