Sioux City Musketeers News Release
SIOUX CITY, IA - The Musketeers made their return to action on Saturday after the holiday break and managed to send their fans home happy, skating to a 4-3 victory over the Lincoln Stars.
Lincoln would strike first just under five minutes into this one. Josh Lopina tipped a puck that made underneath the arm of Ben Kraws to put Lincoln up 1-0 on the powerplay. Sioux City would respond just over halfway into the period when Jordan Steinmetz fired a shot from between the circles that beat Jacob Mucitelli to tie the game at one goal apiece. Matt Miller and Jack Babbage had the assists on the play. Neither team would score the rest of the period, sending both teams to the locker room tied at one.
Sioux City's offense would explode in the 2nd period and it would prove to be crucial. In his first game back after winning the gold with Team USA, Parker Ford jammed home a pass from Jordan Steinmetz to put the Musketeers up 2-1. Matt Miller had the secondary assist on the goal.
It would be Miller giving Sioux City a 3-1 lead on the powerplay less than two minutes later. Newcomer Dominic Vidoli and Kevin Lombardi had the assists on the goal. Just 45 seconds later Ford would wire a shot to the top shelf for his second goal of the period to put Sioux City up 4-1. Jordan Steinmetz had the assist on the play.
Lincoln would start to claw back in this one thanks to a late goal from Tristan Ashbrook to cut the Musketeer lead to 4-2.
Matthew Stienburg also made a name for himself in his first game with the Musketeers. Stienburg and Lincoln's Steven Agriogianis would drop the gloves in the period and Stienburg managed to take down his opponent in an epic brawl at center ice.
Sioux City would manage to hold off Lincoln for almost the entire period, but Shane Pinto managed to score with just 0.3 seconds left to cut the Musketeers' lead to one. Lincoln wouldn't get the opportunity to tie this one up, however; final score 4-3.
Ben Kraws was sharp in net stopping 20 of 23 thrown his way while Mucitelli and Tyler Johnson combined to stop 21 of Sioux City's 25 shots.
The Musketeers will return to action on Monday night for the annual New Year's Eve game against the Omaha Lancers. Puck drop is set for 7:05pm and the first 2,500 in the door will receive Musketeer boom sticks courtesy of Absolute Screen Art.
