Bickford Joins Capitols Staff as Assistant Coach

Middleton, WI - The Madison Capitols rounded out their coaching staff on Monday with the hiring of Gaven Bickford as an Assistant Coach and Director of Scouting. Bickford joins Tom Upton and Corey Leivermann as they collectively prepare for their first season with the Madison Capitols.

"I am very excited to join the Madison Capitols organization," says Bickford. "I want thank Tom and Corey for laying the foundation for an incredible opportunity. I look forward to getting started in Madison".

Bickford joins the Capitols following a three year tenure with the Minnesota Magicians. After two seasons as the Magicians' Assistant Coach, Bickford was promoted to General Manager and Director of Scouting with the Magicians during the 2020-21 season. Bickford has overseen 30 NCAA commitments; including 18 at the Division 1 level and three NHL draft picks.

"We are excited to welcome Gaven to our organization," says Head Coach & General Manager Tom Upton. "Gaven is an energetic, blue collared competitor. He aligns perfectly with our culture and expectation to win games and develop our players in Madison."

As General Manager and Director of Scouting, Bickford oversaw all aspects of hockey and business operations including managing the coaching staff, leading recruiting efforts and player movement, as well as operating off-season hockey programming and strategic plan for the overall growth of the organization.

"The experience he brings as a General Manager and Assistant Coach in the NAHL will benefit our current and future players and teams," says Upton. "Gaven has shown the ability to draft and scout elite talent, and he has shown the capability to develop that talent for Division 1 college hockey and beyond."

Bickford played his youth and High School hockey for the Northern Lakes Lightning. After High School, Gaven attended Siena College in Albany, New York, where he earned a degree in Marketing and was a member of the Club Hockey Team (ACHA).

The native of Crosslake, Minnesota currently resides in Madison, WI with his girlfriend, Emily.
