Old Orchard Beach News Release

Brockton, Mass. - Scituate's Jordan Berry (George Washington) and Mansfield's Rhett Wiseman (Vanderbilt) each launched solo home runs for Brockton, but the Rox fell in heartbreaking fashion on Thursday night as Anyelo Roman (Dakota State) blasted the game-winning, two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to lead the Seacoast Mavericks a 5-3 win.

Berry put Brockton (1-5) on the board first with a solo homer in the third, but Seacoast (3-4) answered back in the bottom of the fourth as Anthony Peguero (Franklin Pierce) came around to score after leading off the frame with a triple.

Knotted at one in the top of the seventh, Wiseman went deep on the first pitch he faced to give the Rox a 2-1 lead. Tanner Reibenspies (San Diego State) reached on an error to keep the momentum alive, and after Norton's Sean Ryan (Wheaton) singled to move Reibenspies into scoring position, an RBI fielder's choice from Berry put the Rox up, 3-1.

However, Seacoast responded again in the bottom half of the frame to tie the game at three after Roman laced a two-run single to score Kevin Stenhouse (Rhode Island) and Jon Pilla III (Belmont Abbey).

Then, with one out and a runner on first in the bottom of the ninth, Roman belted a two-run shot to give the Mavericks the walk-off victory.

Berry went 1-for-4 with his first round-tripper of the season and two RBI, while Ryan went 2-for-4 to pace the Rox offense. Wiseman also homered for the first time all year, while Mike Lupia (Indiana University of Pennsylvania) and Nick Colucci (Boston College) each tallied hits for Brockton.

Roman went 2-for-4 with a homer, four RBI, a stolen base and run scored to propel the Mavericks. Pilla III went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs scored, while Peguero finished 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored.

Joe Fasano (New Jersey Institute of Technology) was solid in his first start of the season for the Rox, allowing just one run on three hits and a walk in five innings while fanning four. Meanwhile,Donald Hissa (Notre Dame) was equally as efficient for Seacoast, scattering three runs (two earned) on five hits in seven innings, while striking out eight.

Kevin Mayone (Assumption) earned the win (1-0) for the Mavs after tossing two scoreless innings of relief, while Sal Minichino (Concordia) was saddled with the loss (0-1).

The Brockton Rox return home to take on the Martha's Vineyard Sharks at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, while the Seacoast Mavericks head to Old Orchard Beach to face the Raging Tide at 6:00 p.m.
