Fort Worth Cats News Release

The Fort Worth Cats could not come back from an early deficit on Monday night, falling 5-3 to the Edinburg Roadrunners at Edinburg Stadium.

After allowing three runs in the first inning and two in the second, Cats' starter Stephen Nikonchik settled down and threw five innings of scoreless baseball, but the offense failed to come through for him.

David Bergin cut into the Edinburg (14-17) lead with his seventh home run of the season, but the Cats (19-12) left the bases loaded to end the inning. Bergin is second in the league in homers behind Kyle Nichols of the San Angelo Colts.

Catcher Shelby Ford drove in two runs with a double in the eighth, and after Bergin and right fielder Chris Ellison drew walks, third baseman Greg Bachman struck out the Cats stranded the bases loaded again.

With the loss, Fort Worth is in danger of losing its first series of the season, but if they win on Tuesday, they will split the series with the Roadrunners.

After a four-game road series with the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings, the Cats return home for a four-game series with the Alexandria Aces on June 30. Tickets to that game will be $5.

Tickets to all home games can be purchased by going to FWCats.com or by calling (817) 332-CATS.
