
Barrera Earns First Pro Win

EDINBURG, Texas - Palmview-native Guadalupe Barrera earned his professional win of his career leading the Edinburg Roadrunners past the Fort Worth Cats 5-3 Monday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Barrera (1-0) allowed two runs in five and two-third innings of relief while striking out five.
The Roadrunners (14-17) grabbed the early as they got RBI singles from Wes Patterson, Trevor Whyte and Ryde Rodriguez making it 3-0.
David Bergin got the Cats (19-12) on the board with his seventh home run of the season in the top of the second inning cutting into Edinburg's lead 3-1.
In the bottom of the second, Agustin Septimo drove in Bobby Rinard with an RBI double. One out later, Dan Coury hit an RBI single scoring Septimo from second extending Edinburg's lead 5-1.
The score remained the same until the top of the eighth when Shelby Ford hit a two-run double to right field scoring Cameron Monger and Tim Maitland making it 5-3 Roadrunners.
Damian Seguen came on and pitched a scoreless inning and a third for his second save of the season giving Edinburg the 5-3 victory.
Stephen Nikonchik (1-3) took the loss after pitching seven innings while allowing five runs, three earned, and striking out seven.
The Roadrunners and Cats will wrap up their four-game series Tuesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
Tuesday's series finale will be Driscoll Health Plan Night and RC Cola & 7Up Twofer Tuesday where select food items and drinks will be $2.
