Sioux Falls, SD-The United States Hockey League (USHL) announced on Monday that Mikhail Berdin (ME-cale BIRD-in) has been named CCM Goaltender of the Week. This marks the first time this season a Stampede player has taken home player of the week honors.

Berdin earned the award after setting a Stampede franchise record with 59 saves Friday night in a 2-1 victory in Muskegon against the Lumberjacks. The previous record was 57 set by Zach Sikich (1999-00) and Craig Vardy (2003-04). Berdin stopped 21 shots in the first period, 19 in the second and 19 shots in the third period to help preserve the victory for the Herd and his second consecutive win between the pipes.

The Ufa, Russia native is in his first season with the club and is 2-2-0 with a 3.00 goals-against-average and a .932 save percentage. Berdin is a 6th round draft pick of the Winnipeg Jets in 2016 and spent the early fall in their development camp prior to joining the Stampede. Last season, Berdin appeared in 22 games for Team Russia U18, posting a 2.07 GAA and a.928 save percentage.

Berdin and the Stampede return to action this Friday when they travel to Sioux City to face the Musketeers at 7:05 PM. On Saturday, the Herd host the Lincoln Stars for Pink in the Rink night, presented by Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital. The ice will be pink and players will be wearing special pink jerseys that will be raffled off to benefit the American Cancer Society. The first 1,000 fans through the doors will receive a free pair of pink Thunderstix, compliments of Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital. Tickets are available through the PREMIER Center or any Ticketmaster outlet.
