Bentley Resigns as Head Coach

Buffalo Destroyers News Release
(BUFFALO, NY) â Ray Bentley has resigned as the head coach of the Buffalo Destroyers. Bentley informed Destroyers owner and CEO Mark Hamister of his decision Wednesday afternoon. He will remain with the team as a consultant.
Bentley, a former linebacker in the National Football League, has struggled with knee problems since a severe knee injury ended his career in 1992 while playing for the Cincinnati Bengals. Over the last year, it was getting harder for Bentley to have to work on turf everyday in practice and at games. The condition of his knees no longer permits him to stand for long periods of time.
"Ray Bentley has been a tremendous asset to this organization," said Hamister. "We look forward to Ray's contribution as a consultant. We plan to initiate a search for a new head coach immediately."
Bentley took over a team that had begun 1-17 and guided them to a 17-21 overall record and two playoff appearances in two and a half seasons.
