Utica Blue Sox News Release

UTICA: The Utica Blue Sox once again got another walk off victory, fourth of the season, and beat the Adirondack Trail Blazers.

Utica catcher Colton Bender was credited with the walk-off win. In the bottom ninth with the score tied at three, Blue Sox's second baseman Coco Hussien walked to first, moved up to second off of a wild pitch, and moved up to third off of an error from the Trail Blazers' pitcher Gerry Siracusa. Hussien finally scored off of Bender's single to give Utica the 4-3 win

The Blue Sox are back above .500 with a 14-13 record, while Adirondack falls to 11-16.

Utica pitcher JT Gosweiler got the win, as he struck out two batters, walked one, and gave up one run in the top ninth. The Blue Sox's starting pitcher Troy Naab also had a good night striking out four, walking three, and giving up one hit in six innings of play.

Adirondack scored one run in the top first. The Trail Blazers' shortstop Lucas Stalman walked to first and stole second base. Stalman moved up to third when Bradley Roberto and Julio Marcano walked, and then he scored Adirondacks' first run of the game thanks to a fielders' choice from Anthony Boselli.

Utica evened the score 1-1 in the bottom fifth. Blue Sox's centerfielder Cameron Phelts advanced to first off of an error from Stalman. He then stole second and reached home plate off of a sacrifice fly out from Hussien.

The Trail Blazers retook the lead in the top seventh. Right fielder Jon Iadevaia moved up to first after being hit by pitch, advanced to second off of a wild pitch, and moved up to third off of another wild pitch. Roberto later singled to bring Iadevaia home and give Adirondack a 2-1 lead.

Utica got back out in front in the bottom eighth. With two outs, Patrick Bordewick singled and then Luis DeLeon doubled to bring Bordewick home and tie the game 2-2. Khalyd Cox later singled to bring DeLeon home and give the Blue Sox a 3-2 lead.

Adirondack tied the game once again in the top ninth. Iadevaia advanced to first off of an error from Bordewick. He also moved up to second when Stalman walked, and went to third off of a wild pitch. Iadevaia then scored the game-tying run thanks to Roberto's sacrifice fly out.

But Gosweiler struck out Julio Marcano to retire the side. Adirondack could not keep the game tied in the bottom ninth, as Siracusa, who was the losing pitcher tonight, walked two, gave up a single, and allowed the Blue Sox to score the game-winning run.

Utica recorded 12 hit tonight. Blue Sox's first baseman Neiko Ramos recorded a team-high three base-hits, while Hussien, Bordewick, and Isaiah Torres each recorded two base hits on the day.

The Blue Sox will be back home Monday to take on the Elmira Pioneers. Monday's game is scheduled to start a 6:35 p.m.
