Bend Elks News Release

Trailing 4-2 heading into the bottom of the 6th inning, Zach Close delivered a game tying 2 run double and Chase Fields followed with a 2 run single as the Elks secure a series win by taking

the first 2 games of the 3 game series against the Gems.

In the top of the 1st inning, Klamath Falls jumped out to an early lead against Kevin Hamann, who after recording a quick two outs, surrendered three consecutive singles, the third of the RBI variety from Cody Hough to score Nick Fisher . Hamann seemed to have difficulty controlling his pitches on Wednesday, lasting just 2 and 2/3 innings, giving up 4 runs on 6 hits while walking and striking out 2.

The Gems scored 1 in the first and 3 in the third to jump out to their early 4-1 lead.

The Elks scored in the bottom of the 3rd inning as Chase Fields doubled and came around to score on the RBI single from Turner Gill, as the Elks cut the Gems lead to 4-2.

That score would hold as the Bend Elks reliever from Seattle University Garrett Anderson had a big outing for the Elks in relief. Anderson, in earning the win, pitched 3 and 1/3 scoreless innings, giving up 3 hits and striking out 5 in earning the victory.

In the bottom of the 6th inning, the Elks bats came alive. Tyler Servais drew a 1 out walk, Kyle Giusti was hit by a pitch, and Cullen O'Dwyer had a pinch hit single to load the bases with one out. That brought Bend, OR native Zach Close to the plate, and he drove a 1-2 pitch down the left field line for a 2 out double, and Chase Fields followed with a 2 run single to empty the bases as the Elks jumped in front 6-4.

Klamath Falls scored 1 in the 7th and had runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out as David Murrillo, from Lewis and Clark State came in to the game, striking out pinch hitter Dempsey Grover and Cam Newell grounded out to Seth Spivey, who made a nice play, and Derek Dixon with a fantastic stretch to snag the throw and put Klamath away for the second straight night.

The Bend Elks and Klamath Falls Gems will play the final of the 3 game series at Kiger Stadium in Klamath Falls, first pitch at 6:35 p.m.
