Bradenton Marauders News Release
Bradenton, FL - The Marauders (32-21, 64-59) dropped a 1-0 game to Fort Myers (31-23, 70-55) on Thursday night at McKechnie Field. Bradenton was blanked for just the sixth time this season, but managed just three hits against Fort Myers starter Omar Bencomo (W, 1-1).
Bencomo faced the minimum through the first five innings. The only baserunner over that stretch was Austin Meadows, who singled with one out in the first inning but was picked off first. Bencomo stranded a pair in scoring position in the sixth and fired a 1-2-3 seventh after being staked to a 1-0 lead.
RHP Felipe Gonzalez started for the Marauders and blanked the Miracle over five innings. Fort Myers' best chance versus the starter came after a leadoff triple in the fifth by Marcus Knecht. Gonzalez induced a shallow fly out by Logan Wade for the first out, and Knecht was tagged out at the plate for the second out of the inning on Jason Kanzler's grounder to third.
The Miracle broke through against RHP Henry Hirsch (L, 2-3) in the top of the seventh. Mitch Garver single to left to start the inning, then stole second on a hit-and-run attempt. Garver advanced to third on a one-out grounder to second and scored the only run of the game on Wade's single to center.
Tyler Jay tossed a perfect eighth for the Miracle. Todd Van Steensel acquired his 13th save with a scoreless ninth.
The Marauders remain four games behind Palm Beach in the South Division standings.
