Yakima Bears News Release

The Yakima Bears were shutout 6-0 Monday night at Nat Bailey Stadium in Vancouver, British Columbia. The Canadians have now tossed six shutouts, which ties them for the Northwest League with the Bears. The Bears have now been shutout more than any other team in the league, as Monday's shutout loss was the squad's seventh shutout defeat in 2012.

Bears starter Kyle Owings began with three scoreless innings and had retired seven-straight batters entering the fourth inning. After hitting the first batter of the fourth, Owings gave up a home run to Art Charles. In the fifth inning the first batter reached on an error and then three singles led to three unearned runs against Owings. The loss went on Owings, who is now 1-4 on the season. Victor Acosta had a balk to allow an inherited runner to score when replacing Owings and gave up a home run in the sixth to finish the scoring on the night. Acosta was charged with one run in one and a third innings before Blake Forslund came in and tossed two scoreless frames.

The Bears were outhit 7-to-4 in the game and no Bears base runner ever made to third base. While the Canadians hit two home runs, a Josh Parr double was the only extra-base hit for the Bears.

The winning pitcher was Vancouver's Ben White, who racked up six strikeouts over seven innings. Tucker Donahue pitched the final two innings for the Canadians, as he faced only six batters and had two strikeouts of his own.

The Canadians lead the series 2-1 with two games left to play. Tuesday's game is scheduled for 7:05 at Nat Bailey Stadium. Lefty Daniel Watts of the Bears is expected to face a fellow southpaw in Kyle Anderson of the Canadians.
