Ben Ingram Named Southern League Broadcaster of the Year
September 9, 2009 - Southern League (SL1)
Mississippi Braves News Release
Pearl, MS - The Mississippi Braves are proud to announce that Ben Ingram, the voice of the Mississippi Braves, was named the 2009 Southern League Radio Broadcaster of the Year on Wednesday.
In two years as the M-Braves play-by-play announcer, Ben has seen a Southern League Championship and now won the league's top award for broadcasters. Ben's experience dates back to 1998 when he was the color commentator for junior college football games at the age of 18. His first play-by-play position came as a sophomore at Mississippi College and his first job with an affiliated professional baseball team came with the 2005 Eugene Emeralds, the San Diego Padres Single-A affiliate in Eugene, WA.
He served as the M-Braves color commentator for home games in 2007 before taking the reigns as play-by-play announcer in 2008.
Mississippi Braves General Manager Steve DeSalvo stated, "I am thrilled for Ben. It is a tremendous honor when you are recognized by your peers for doing an outstanding job. Ben has done a tremendous job for the Mississippi Braves. He's got a great personality, a tremendous knowledge of the game, and a 'Big League' voice. What a great honor in only his second full season in the Southern League. It is an honor well deserved."
From the Southern League:
The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs is pleased to announce that Ben Ingram of the Mississippi Braves has been named its 2009 Radio Broadcaster of the Year, as selected by his peers and the league's general managers.
Ingram's first two seasons as the full-time voice of the Braves have been eventful to say the least. In 2008, Mississippi won its first Southern League championship in arguably one of the most exciting and improbable finishes in recent memory and now Ingram has some hardware of his own.
After earning a communications/mass media degree from Mississippi College in 2003, Ingram was the play-by-play voice for the Jackson Senators of the Independent League. From there, he earned his first job in affiliated baseball, landing the play-by-play job for the Eugene Emeralds of the Northwest League. Ingram joined the Mississippi broadcast team in 2007 as the No. 2 broadcaster.
