Tulsa Oilers News Release
GLENDALE, AZ - The Central Hockey League announced today that Oilers forward Ben Gordon has been named the Oakley CHL Player of the Week for the period ending February 23. Gordon earns the honor for the second time in as many weeks and for the third time this season.
After posting six goals and four assists in the week ending February 16, Gordon continued his impressive run last week when he recorded seven goals and three assists to help Tulsa to a 3-0-0 record.
Last Tuesday in Arizona, Gordon had a hand in each of the Oilers five goals in a 5-3 win over the Sundogs. The Minnesota native netted the first three goals of the game and chipped in a pair of assists to record his fourth five-point outing of the season. Gordon scored another goal on Wednesday night as the Oilers rolled to a 5-0 victory over the Sundogs and earned a sweep of their mid-week series. Back on home ice on Friday night, Gordon found the net three times to register his second hat-trick of the week and help push the Oilers to a 4-3 triumph over the Quad City Mallards.
Gordon is on a five-game goal streak and through nine games in February, the Minnesota native is setting a blistering scoring pace with 21 points (13 goals, 8 assists). In the 2012-13 season, his first with the Oilers, Gordon registered 66 points in 52 games and finished second on the team in scoring. This season, Gordon already has 73 points (34 goals, 39 assists) to his credit in just 50 games. The sixth-year pro, who has five hat-tricks this season, leads Tulsa in points and has climbed to third in the CHL scoring race.
For being selected as the Player of the Week, Gordon will receive a special gift from Oakley.
The Oilers have a full week off between games before returning to the ice this Friday in Wichita when they meet the rival Thunder for the ninth time this season. With 13 games remaining in the regular season, the Oilers are in sole possession of seventh place in the CHL standings.
