Bells Take Non-League Battle From Seals 3-0

August 7, 2013 - West Coast League (WCL)
Bellingham Bells News Release

Strong starts from each pitcher on Tuesday night would keep the scoring to a minimum, but the Bellingham Bells prevailed with a 3-0 win over the San Francisco Seals.

The Bells got out to a quick start in the bottom of the first inning, with Ryan Yamane working a leadoff walk and advancing to second on a passed ball. Trent Chatterton followed with a single of his own to put runners on the corners with nobody out for Ryan Kirby. The Bellingham first baseman would give the home team the first run of the night with a single to score Yamane.

San Francisco starting pitcher Elijon Alcantar escaped the rest of the inning with no further damage.

The Seals starting pitcher would have success against the Bells up until the eighth inning, where the home team tallied two more runs off Alcantar.

Just like in the first inning, the Bells would turn a Yamane walk into a run. Following the Yamane walk, he would steal second and Chatterton would draw a walk of his own. Each runner would advance 90 feet after a Kirby sacrifice bunt to put runners on second and third with one out. Yamane would score on a wild pitch, while Chatterton touched home following a Johnny Farrington double to left field.

From that point on, reliever Marc Huberman would close things out for the Bells.

The pitching for Bellingham was strong again on Tuesday, with starter John Albert going four innings and allowing only three hits, along with the trio of Chase Radan, Will Dennis, and Huberman tossing five shutout innings out of the bullpen. Radan picked up the win for his efforts, while Huberman earned the save.

"A dandy by our pitchers tonight," said Bells manager Gary Hatch. "They were all real good and it was nice to see Marc (Huberman) back out there to get a couple innings. He has not been out there in a while."

The non-league contest with the Seals does not count towards the Bells record, meaning that with Wenatchee and Walla Walla wins tonight, Bellingham now trails each team by 2 (1/2) games for a playoff spot.

On Wednesday night, the Bells and Seals will conclude their two game series with a 7:05 start time. Following the game will be a firework show sponsored by Seastar Restaurant. Along with the fireworks, the Bells will be celebrating Fan Appreciation Day and Kids Night at the ballpark. All the action can be heard online at bellinghambells.com with Mike Weisman on the call.
