Alexandria Beetles News Release

Waterloo, IA - Ali Simpson gave Alexandria its second consecutive quality start, going six innings and allowing just one run while striking out seven. But the Waterloo Bucks (13-5) scored nine runs in the seventh and eighth against the Beetle (6-11) bullpen to win the middle game of a five game set 10-5 on Saturday.

Jake Powers earned the victory for the Bucks going seven innings and allowing just two Alexandria runs while Andrew Busby was saddled with the loss.

A pitchers duel through the first six innings, the game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when Simpson surrendered a two-out homerun to Kevin Kaczmarski, his fourth of the year.

But the Beetles responded quickly with two runs in the top of the fifth. Josh Guerra, Ryan Padilla, and David Garcia hit consecutive singles to begin the frame and after Josh Carpenter grounded into a double play, driving in one run, Will Fulmer hit a two-out RBI double down the right field line to give Alexandria the lead.

The Beetles wouldn't score again until the ninth, and after Simpson departed with a 2-1 lead, the bucks wasted little time in retaking the lead. A double and single put runners on the corners with no one out against Busby and a delayed double steal brought in the tying run. After a pair of two-out walks loaded the bases, back to back singles up the middle brought in three more to give the Bucks a 5-2 lead.

Waterloo batted around for the second consecutive inning in the eighth, scoring five more runs on four walks, a pair of walks and a hit by pitch to turn the game into a blowout.

Alexandria clawed three runs back in the top of the ninth with two outs on RBI hits by Padilla, Garcia and Carpenter, but the Beetles would get no closer falling by a 10-5 final.
