New Britain Bees News Release
Though the New Britain Bees again battled late in the game, the rally wasn't enough as the Bees fell to the Long Island Ducks in the opener of the three-game series 5-2.
Bees' starter Kyle Simon tossed five scoreless innings, allowing just one Ducks single and striking out four. The New Britain bullpen did not fare as well as against the bats of Long Island as the Ducks scored four times in the sixth inning of knuckleballer Colin Moberly and once in the eighth against Jarret Leverett. Ducks' starter Mark Blackmar also tossed five scoreless innings, striking out three and allowing just three hits as he picked up the win.
As the Bees have done over the past several games, the offense put together rallies late in the game, scoring single runs in the eighth and ninth innings. Outfielder Kevin Rivers drove home a run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth, and Jonathan Roof came through with a pinch hit RBI double in the ninth off former big leaguer Todd Coffey.
Tomorrow, lefty Josh Outman will get the start for the Bees as the team tries to even up the series against the Ducks and starting pitcher John Brownell. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM. Tomorrow is also the Fox 61 Two-fer Tuesday, with fans who purchase tickets online tomorrow for the game receiving a buy-one-get-one offer by entering the promo code "BOGO" when completing the ticket order.
Bees Buzz: DH Craig Maddox extended his hitting streak to four straight with a leadoff double in the fourth...Bees catcher Nick Murphy picked up his first professional hit in the 9th with a single off Coffey...Right-hander Shawn Haviland pitched a scoreless 7th, striking out one. He has now struck out six in his two appearances on the season (five innings)...
