April 25, 2016 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

(Sugar Land, TX) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (1-3) defeated by the Sugar Land Skeeters (3-1) 13-5 at Constellation Field on Sunday evening to get into the win column for the first time in 2016. The wait was worthwhile for the 'Fish, as the final game of the series was delayed at the start for three hours and twenty eight minutes. The victory was also the first in the managerial career of Luis Rodriguez.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Jonathan Albaladejo did not factor in the game's final outcome, lasting three and two-thirds innings in his Bluefish debut, allowing five runs on seven hits, walking one, striking out four and allowing a home run. Sugar Land Starting Pitcher Ian Marshall (0-1) suffered the loss after facing 14 batters in an inning plus of work, surrendering ten runs on eight hits, walking three and throwing a wild pitch while not striking out a batter. David Kubiak (1-1) dominated Sugar Land batters to register his first victory in a 'Fish uniform, firing three and one-third scoreless innings, allowing just a hit and a walk with six punchouts. The trio of Kubiak, Taylor Thompson, and David Carpenter mowed down the opposition all night long with five and one-third shutout innings and a combined eight strikeouts.

Bridgeport drew first blood immediately in the opening inning against Marshall with a two-out rally. Dan Johnson walked, Jose Cuevas singled, and Luis Rodriguez drove both of them home with a two-run double (his first hit of the 2016 season) and five batters into the game the Bluefish led 2-0. The visitors went right back to work in the top of the second inning, sending twelve men to the plate in registering eight runs and seven hits to extend their advantage to 10-0. Ruben Sosa Jr. drove home a pair with a base knock, and a couple of batters later Dan Johnson would belt a two run double, and right behind him Jose Cuevas would come up with a two-run single, and the rout was on. The 'Fish were not finished just yet, as Luis Domoromo would cap off the rally with plating Cuevas and Rodriguez with a two-bagger, and Bridgeport was well on their way.

Ruben Sosa Jr. continues to set the table at the top of the order for Bridgeport, and tonight's game was no exception, but this time he displayed some power at the plate. The speedy Bluefish leadoff hitter went "over the wall" and "touched them all" for the first time in 2016 with a solo blast into the right field bullpen to make it 11-5 in favor of the 'Fish. Sosa Jr. drove home three in the game, and had seven hits in 15 at bats in the series, and reached base safely in ten of 18 at bats in the series, a .444 On-Base Percentage. Cuevas led the offensive barrage with four of Bridgeport's overall hits, and also had a very impressive series in his own right, going seven for ten with three runs batted in. Following a day off tomorrow, Bridgeport's next stop on this two-city, seven game road trip is Waldorf, Maryland when they battle the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, the 2015 Freedom Division First Half Champions beginning Tuesday night at 7:05 P.M.

Bridgeport returns home for the first time in the 2016 regular season following their seven game road trip on Thursday, April 28th when they host the newest member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and in-state rival the New Britain Bees at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. First pitch on Opening Night is scheduled for 7:12. All fans in attendance will receive schedule posters courtesy of CDOT and the game will be followed by a 3D fireworks display presented by Family Vision Centers.
