Bees Open Homestand with Win

July 14, 2010 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Burlington Bees News Release

Carlo Testa belted home runs nine as the offense scored in each of the first five innings of a 7-6 win over the Bowling Green Hot Rods on Wednesday night.

Testa hit solo shots in the first and third innings, bookending a three-run second inning that featured critical RBI hits from Hilton Richardson and Gerard Hall with two outs. The Bees led 5-2 after three innings, and added single runs in the fourth and fifth to push the lead to five.

Testa's home runs give him ten on the season. He becomes the first Bee to collect 10 doubles, 10 triples, and 10 home runs in the same season since David Lough accomplished the feat in 2008.

The bullpen became a key factor, however, as the game moved into the late innings. Sugar Ray Marimon (W, 2-2) hit a batter and issued a walk with one out in the sixth, and was lifted from the game in favor of Brandon Barrow. Barrow was greeted with a double and a homer to pull the Hot Rods to within one, but they could pull no closer.

Mitch Hodge pitched a scoreless seventh, and Ryan Dennick (S, 4) closed the door with a scoreless eighth and ninth for his fourth save in as many opportunities.

The contest marked the first ever meeting between the Bees and the Bowling Green Hot Rods, who are in their first season as a Midwest League franchise. They joined the Midwest League from the South Atlantic League, where they played one season in Bowling Green after moving there from Columbus, Georgia.

The Bees and Hot Rods square off in game two of the series tomorrow night at Community Field on Thirsty Thursday presented by the Mark Warth Agency. Enjoy drink specials on beer and Pepsi products from the time the gates open at 5:30. First pitch is at 6:30.
