Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release

Hidalgo, Texas --- The Arizona Sundogs capitalized on four power play opportunities to defeat the Killer Bees 6-3 in front of 5,275 at Dodge Arena. The Sundogs earned the victory in their first ever regular season game.

Overall, six of nine goals in Friday night's Killer Bees home opener came via the power play. The teams combined for a total of 17 power plays.

Ryan Steeves and Doug Orr each notched a pair of goals for the Sundogs, while goaltender Kris Mayotte turned aside 49 RGV shots. Jonathan Robert scored twice for the Killer Bees, including his first pro goal. Defenseman Jamie Lovell picked up a pair of assists. Jeff Van Nynatten made 14 saves in the losing effort.

This was the first game action for the 2006-07 Bees, who had to cancel two preseason games due to immigration issues. "We struggled on special teams, and for two periods our work ethic wasn't where it needs to be to compete at this level," said Killer Bees Head Coach Paul Fixter. "The third period we showed grit and determination and won the period 2-1. We need to build on that going into Saturday's game."

The Bees and Sundogs go at it again Saturday night at Dodge Arena. Face off is set for 7:35 p.m.
