Bees Beat Bucks 5-3

Laredo Bucks News Release


HIDALGO, Texas – The defending CHL Champion Laredo Bucks dropped a 5-3 decision to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees at the Dodge Arena in front of 5,427 fans. Bees forward Matic Kralj had a pair of goals as did defenseman Jason Tessier. The Bucks are 2-2-0. Laredo returns home Saturday against the San Angelo Saints at the LEC. The Bucks struck first as forward Steve Simoes skated down the left wing and teed up a slap shot from the top of the circle that whistled by Bees goalie Jeff Levy low glove side for a 1-0 Bucks lead at 8:06. It was the first of the year for Simoes. The Bees countered on the power play as Tessier ripped home a slap shot at 12:26. Late in the period Bees defenseman Sean Gillam turned the corner down the left side and slipped the puck into the net at 17:53 to give Rio Grande Valley a 2-1 lead.

In the second period the Bucks tied it when forward Chris Nielsen gunned a wrist shot from the left wall that deflected off a Bees defenseman and slipped by Levy at 12:50.

In the third period the game opened up. Tessier connected for his second of the night with a wrist shot at 10:45 to give the Valley a 3-2 lead. Less than two minutes later the Bucks tied it when Nielsen dropped a pass to forward Scott Kelman who gunned home a wrist shot at 12:36 to even the score at three. Sixty one seconds later the Bees untied it when Kralj made a terrific move down the left wing and swooped in for the go ahead goal at 13:27. Kralj than capped the scoring with an empty netter at 19:17. FINAL SCORE Rio Grande Valley 5, Laredo 3.

Bucks goalie David Guerrera allowed four Killer Bees goals on 30 shots and dropped to 1-2-0. Levy stopped 31 of 34 to get the win, it was his first of the year he is 1-0-0. The Bucks were 0-1 on the power play, while Rio Grande Valley was 1-2.
