PEARL, MS -- Dallas Beeler and the Tennessee Smokies held the Mississippi Braves to one hit through the first eight frames, shutting out the South Division leaders 7-0 Thursday evening at Trustmark Park. The series continues with the reigning Southern League Pitcher of the Week, Alex Wood, taking the hill for the Braves Friday at 7:00 PM.

Mississippi managed three hits and committed two errors. Tennessee scored seven runs on 14 hits while committing one error. Braeden Schlehuber had two of the M-Braves three hits, extending his current hit streak to six games.

Tennessee took a 3-0 lead in the fourth. Ronald Torreyes led off with a double to left field. He took third on Arismendy Alcantara's sacrifice bunt before coming in to score on an RBI-single from Christian Villanueva. Rubi Silva walked. Johermyn Chavez then singled to center and a bad throw to the plate allowed Villanueva to score and make it 2-0. After an intentional walk, Jonathan Mota singled to drive in the third run.

Tennessee starter Dallas Beeler faced the minimum through five frames, only allowing Alden Carrithers to reach on a walk in the first. Carrithers was quickly set down with an inning-ending double play. Schlehuber led off the sixth for the Braves with a double to left field, breaking Beeler's no-hit bid.

Rafael Lopez launched a solo home run to right field in the top of the eighth to extend Tennessee's lead to 4-0.

The Smokies tacked on a few more runs in the ninth. Silva and Chavez reached on back-to-back singles, and Lopez walked to load the bases. Mota followed with a sacrifice fly to center, making it a 5-0 game. Ty Wright then delivered a pinch-hit, two-run double to left field, extending Tennessee's lead to 7-0.

The M-Braves loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the ninth but could not get a run across as Brian Schlitter forced a pop out to end the game.

Beeler (3-2) went six and two-thirds for the Smokies. He limited the M-Braves to just one hit and three walks while striking out five. J.R. Graham (1-2) started for the M-Braves. He gave up three earned runs on seven hits and three walks while fanning six in five and one-third innings.

In game three of this five-game series, M-Braves lefty Alex Wood (1-1, 0.67) counters Smokies right-hander Alberto Cabrera (3-1, 3.99). Wood enters the game with an 18.2 consecutive scoreless innings pitched streak.
