Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Portland, OR - Nick Hundley, Vince Sinisi and Matt Antonelli all had RBI singles in the first three innings and the Portland Beavers pitching staff took over from there as Portland beat the Sidewinders 3-2 on Thursday night.

Billy Buckner was charged with the loss despite a quality start. Buckner (4-6) allowed single runs in the first, second and third innings but was able to post zeroes from there. He finished with four strikeouts, 3 walks and allowed eight hits.

The Sidewinders got all of their offense via the long ball. Trent Oeltjen ripped a line drive solo home run in the third and Robby Hammock homered to left in the sixth.

Justin Germano earned the win, allowing just the two runs on six hits in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out five and walked four.

Tucson had a pair of chances to tie or take the lead late but couldn't capitalize. After Germano walked Oeltjen and Jamie D'Antona with two outs in the seventh, Joe Thatcher came in and struck out Josh Whitesell. In the ninth, Tim Raines, Jr. struck out but reached on a wild pitch and stole second. Edwin Moreno ended the threat, however, with a strike out of Emilio Bonifacio and a ground ball to third off the bat of pinch hitter Jesus Merchan.

The Sidewinders and Beavers wrap up their four game series on Friday night at PGE Park. Left-hander Evan MacLane (3-5, 5.53) starts for Tucson against right-hander Clay Hensley (0-1, 2.63) for Portland. First pitch is at 7:05. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:55.
