
Beavers blast Sidewinders

Portland, OR - The Portland Beavers scored eight times in the fourth inning and six more runs in the fifth on their way to a 16-9 win over the Sidewinders on Wednesday afternoon. Portland has won two of the first three games in the series.
Will Venable went 4 for 5 with three RBI and Michael Barrett had three hits and three RBI to lead the Beavers 15 hit attack. Eight different Portland players had RBI in the game.
Juan Gutierrez started for the Sidewinders and lasted just three and a third innings. Gutierrez (1-8) allowed nine runs (five earned) on seven hits. He walked four and struck out four. Dustin Glant relieved him and allowed seven runs (six earned) in an inning and two-thirds.
The Sidewinders turned to a position player to finish the game as Matt Morgan took the hill in the bottom of the eighth. Morgan walked one but posted a scoreless frame. His fastball was clocked between 88 and 90 miles per hour on the PGE Park radar gun.
Wilkin Castillo homered and drove in four for the Sidewinders. Trot Nixon hit his sixth home run of the year, a two run shot to right in the seventh.
The Sidewinders and Beavers wrap up their four game series Thursday night at PGE Park. Right-hander Yusmeiro Petit (1-1, 3.66) starts for Tucson against left-hander Wade LeBlanc (2-4, 9.35) for Portland. First pitch is at 7:05. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:55.
