Bears raise curtain on 2007 Wednesday in Norfolk

HERSHEY kicks off 2007 with the most points of any team in the American Hockey League. The club looks to further cement its hold on first place Wednesday in Virginia against the Admirals.
Coming off a stretch of five wins in six nights to close out 2006, the BEARS sport a 25-4-3-4 record and 57 points to lead the East Division. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is in second place with 52 points entering play tonight, while Norfolk sits in third place with 51. The Penguins have the night off Wednesday.
Joey Tenute enters play Wednesday on an incredible hot-streak. The second year HERSHEY centerman from Hamilton, Ontario scored four consecutive game-winning goals last week to conclude December. Tenute totaled six goals, four assists for ten points for the week ending December 31. Alexandre Giroux finished 2006 with a team-high 26 goals. In roster news, Washington assigned center Dave Steckel to HERSHEY late Monday night. He is expected to play Wednesday for HERSHEY. The BEARS also assigned goaltender Jeff Pietrasiak to Reading (ECHL) on Monday. Goaltenders Maxime Daigneault and Daren Machesney each made the trip to Hampton Roads for the two-game series with the Admirals.
Tonight's game is the beginning of a five-game road trip, the longest of the season for the BEARS. Following games Wednesday and Friday in Virginia, the BEARS head to Wilkes-Barre to face the Penguins this Saturday before single games at Binghamton and Bridgeport next weekend.
