Bears Lose Fourth in a Row, 12-4

NEWARK, NJ, August 18-The Camden Riversharks scored six runs in the sixth inning and went on to defeat the Newark Bears, 12-4, Monday night at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium. With the loss, the Bears have lost four games in a row.

Camden had built a 5-2 lead before scoring the six runs in the sixth inning. Francisco Morales led off the frame with a home run off of Alberto Castillo. Before the inning was over the Riversharks had scored five more times on a total of six hits off of Castillo and Damon Ponce de Leon. Castillo (5-6) pitched five innings and allowed nine runs and eleven hits in taking the loss.

Riversharks catcher Angel Pena was 4-4 with a double and 2 runs-batted-in. Shortstop Jesus Azuaje was 3-4 with a home run and 3 RBI.

Bryan Ward (1-0) made his Camden debut a successful one, earning the win by allowing only two runs and three hits over six innings. He struck out three batters and walked only one.

Bears shortstop Eddy Martinez was activated from the disabled list before the game and preceded to go 2-4 with a home run, his fourth, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored.

The Bears and Riversharks will meet again on Tuesday night with Jaime Navarro (8-3) pitching for the Bears against Camden's Mark Nussbeck (8-3).
