Bears Go to Extras Again, Fall to Tri-City

June 26, 2011 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Yakima Bears News Release

The Yakima Bears lost to the Tri-City Dust Devils 6-1 in 13 innings Saturday night at Yakima County Stadium. This was the second extra-inning game of the homestand and third of the season for the Bears, who had previously played games that lasted 12 innings and 16 innings.

The game went to extra innings tied at 1-1, as both teams scored a single run in the second inning. Tri-City got a two-out double from Ryan Casteel, and he was driven home by a Juan Cousset single. The Bears tied the game with an RBI double courtesy of Henry Zabala that scored Jimmy Comerota, who had led off the inning with a walk.

That was the end of the scoring in the regulation nine innings thanks to some impressive pitching performances. John Pedrotty went four innings allowing only the one run. Behind Pedrotty, Alex Capaul, Kable Hogben and Evan Marshall combined to toss seven shutout innings and, along with Pedrotty, allow no walks in the first 11 innings of the game.

Miles Reagan walked the first Tri-City batter of the 12th inning, but was able to escape that trouble as he kept the game at 1-1 that inning. In the 13th inning, Reagan would walk three of the five batters he faced, with the other two laying down a sacrifice bunt and reaching on a single. After Reagan was taken out, Mike Blake walked two batters and gave up two singles. Reagan was charged with three runs and the loss, while Blake took on one run.

The Bears were unable to score in the bottom of the 13th inning and lost 6-1.

Ching-Lung Lo earned his second win of the season, capping a night for the Dust Devils staff that saw four pitchers combine to walk three batters, allow four hits, and only give up one run.

Game two of the three-game series at Yakima County Stadium is an early 5:35 start Sunday. Both teams are set to start a right-handed pitcher, with Randy Hamrick going for the Bears and Nelson Gonzalez getting the call for the Dust Devils.
