Hershey Bears News Release

The HERSHEY BEARS will face the Hamilton Bulldogs Friday night in Game 1 of the Calder Cup Finals, with the BEARS chasing American Hockey League history. With seven playoff series wins in a row, HERSHEY tied an AHL mark for consecutive series victories. The record is now shared with the 2005-07 BEARS and the 1990-1992 Springfield Indians, but a Calder Cup clinching win would establish a new league record. Hamilton makes its third ever Calder Cup Finals appearance, losing to HERSHEY in 1997 and Houston in 2003. The BEARS are also in search of the team's 10th Calder Cup title, which would be a new league record as well.

The two teams each won one game against the other in the two-game season series, with each team winning in the other's building. HERSHEY won on October 13 at Copps Coliseum 3-2 when Tomas Fleischmann scored the game-winning goal in the closing seconds. Hamilton won at GIANT Center 5-2 on February 18.

The Bulldogs advanced to this year's final in impressive fashion, defeating the Rochester Americans, Manitoba Moose and Chicago Wolves along the way. Hamilton opened the North Division Final and the Western Conference Final with back-to-back road wins in Winnipeg and Chicago to propel themselves to the series win. HERSHEY defeated the Albany River Rats, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and Manchester Monarchs to claim the club's second consecutive Eastern Conference Championship.

Friday's game will be carried live by the BEARS Radio Network (100.1 FM and 960-AM) beginning with the pregame show at 6:40 p.m. The game can also be heard in the United States and Canada on XM Satellite Radio's Home Ice channel 204. John Walton and Grady Whittenburg have the call of the action. Games 3, 4 and 5 of the series in Hamilton will be televised in central Pennsylvania by WHTM-TV (abc-27) next Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Walton and WHTM-TV Sports Director Gregg Mace have the call of the action.
