New Jersey Pride News Release
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Scott Urick scored four goals, including the 200th of his illustrious career, and Kevin Boland added four himself, but ultimately it was deja-vu as the Pride were defeated in overtime by the Washington Bayhawks for the second time in three weeks, 17-16, at Georgetown University.
Just as he did in a Week 1, 11-10, overtime win in New Jersey, Washington keeper Chris Garrity made an unbelievable save in overtime to keep the score tied. Garrity stoned Conor Ford on the doorstep, allowing the Bayhawks' Matt Ward to come down and beat New Jersey keeper Rob Scherr.
Washington's Kyle Dixon was named the Bud Light MVP with five goals.
"We played much better offensively, but we just didn't come out with a win,'' said Pride head coach Peter Jacobs. "It was a tough game to lose."
The overtime loss was the fifth-straight time the team has lost when it has played more than 60 minutes. It was also the third straight time that the Pride and Bayhawks have played an overtime game - all three being Bayhawks wins.
The Pride offense was much more in sync, getting four goals from Urick, Boland and Greg Peyser, as well as getting a trio of tallies from Adam Doneger. For Peyser, it was the first time in his career that he scored more than one goal.
"This one hurts,'' said Jacobs. "We had our chances to win and we didn't convert.''
The Pride took a 4-2 lead after one quarter, the first time the team has had a lead after any quarter in 2007, on the strength of Urick's first two goals of the game, and another spectacular play from Kevin Boland where he dove from directly behind the cage and backhanded a shot into the net. Greg Peyser added his first tally as a member of the Pride to cap the quarter's scoring.
After Peyser and Adam Doneger tallied to give New Jersey a two goal lead, Washington middie Bill McGlone drilled a left-handed two pointer to even the game at six with 8:03 to play in the first half. The first half ended with Washington scoring the final three goals to take a 9-6 lead.
In the third, Washington got a Casey Connor tally sandwiched between Pride goals by Kevin Boland and Scott Urick. Washington goalie Chris Garrity was the difference maker in the quarter, stopping three point-blank shots on Pride players early in the stanza. The Pride scored the final four goals of the quarter to take an 11-10 lead, the latest in a game in 2007 that the team has had a lead.
