New Jersey Pride News Release

CLIFTON - Pride head coach Peter Jacobs can rest easily. His goalie was finally rewarded for what he's done.

"Rob was a rock back there,'' Pride head coach Peter Jacobs told newjerseypride.com's Bobby Ingram following the game. "I hope he gets the recognition he deserves.''

Pride goalie Rob Scherr and attackman Matt Danowski were honored as the MLL's Goalie of the Week and Rookie of the Week after their Week 4 performances in a win over Rochester.

Scherr, coming off a career best 26 saves in Week 3 against Boston, had another superb game, stopping 24 Rattlers' shots en route to the Pride's first win of the season 'on June 14.

Danowski registered his first points as a pro, scoring a pair of goals and assisting on three others, earning himself Bud Light Game MVP honors in only his second professional contest.

Scherr, always humble, was just that after the game.

"They're really good -- Junior, Casey [Powell], [Colin] Doyle," Scherr said. "My defense forced them to shoot from some places and I was able to make some saves.

"Getting the first win is always huge. Our offense played great today. They pretty much stole the show."

Danowski was still finding his way in the early going, but once his first points came on an assist, the flood gates opened.

"It was good to get the monkey off my back, to break the ice a little bit, and to get a little bit of confidence," Danowski said. "You're playing against the best players in the world, so without confidence you're not going to play very well.''

The Pride return home this week to take on the San Francisco Dragons at 8 p.m. on Saturday. For tickets, please call the Pride offices at (973) 614-1792.
