June 2, 2007 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL)
New York Lizards News Release
The Long Island Lizards beat the San Francisco Dragons, 14-12, at Kezar Stadium on Saturday in the team's only trip west in 2007. Tim Goettelmann led Long Island with four goals, while Keith Cromwell, Stephen Berger and Austin Garrison each scored twice. With the win, the Lizards improve to 2-0, grabbing first place in the MLL's Eastern Conference.
Chris Fiore, who was acquired Thursday in a draft-day deal, opened the scoring at 3:45. The teams traded scoring until Tim Booth scored a two-point goal, giving San Francisco a 3-2 lead, their only lead of the game.
Long Island responded with five consecutive goals from five different players, grabbing a 7-3 lead after the first quarter.
The Dragons mounted a run in the third quarter, cutting the Lizards lead to one goal heading into the fourth, but Austin Garrison and Tim Goettelmann scored in the fourth to put Long Island on top, and the Lizards defense held steady through the final ten minutes to shut down the Dragons offense.
The Lizards meet the Washington Bayhawks (3-1) in a first-place battle next Saturday at Georgetown University. Faceoff is slated for 4:00 PM.
