San Francisco Dragons News Release

San Francisco, CA - Before a crowd of 4,112, the San Francisco Dragons lost a heartbreaker to the visiting Long Island Lizards 14-12. The Dragons played a strong second half in their home opener at Kezar Stadium, but the valiant effort was not quite enough to overcome the visiting Long Island Lizards. Newly acquired attackman Liam Banks scored his first goal in a Dragons' uniform and added two assists. Banks was acquired along with New Jersey Pride 4th round draft pick Ryan Hotaling for attackman Joe Yevoli and the Dragons' 2008 2nd round pick.

The visiting Lizards came out of the gates fast. They had seven first period tallies, including two by attackman Tim Goettelman, and quickly roared out to a commanding 7-3 lead. In the first quarter, Banks assisted on a Matt Alrich goal at the 6:14 mark, which resulted in his first point of many to come as a Dragon.

The Dragons narrowed the margin with a pair of goals by Jarett Park and Gary Rosyski, after which Long Island began to increase their lead with a 5-1 run. This ten minute stretch of the second frame was marked by inspired play by a Long Island team whose delayed flight didn't arrive until four and a half hours before game-time.

San Francisco found their stride in the 3rd quarter, outscoring the Lizards 3-0 on goals by attackmen Matt Alrich and Ryan Powell, as well as midfielder Chris Rotelli. Though the deficit entering the fourth quarter was only one goal, the Lizards outscored the Dragons 2-1 in the final quarter for a final score of 14-12.

The Dragons' next game is at the Chicago Machine on Sunday, June 10th at 12:00 p.m. PDT.
