BayHawks Rise Above Legends at 2013 NBA D-League Showcase

January 11, 2013 - NBA G League (G League) News Release

RENO, NEV., Jan. 7, 2013 - The Texas Legends, owners of the NBA D-League's best record, had their hands full at the 2013 NBA D-League Showcase finale as they were edged by the Erie BayHawks 86-83 in a wire-to-wire battle.

D.J. Kennedy paced Erie for a second consecutive night in Reno as he notched a game-high 22 points, to go along with nine rebounds, four assists and three steals. Over the two days in Reno he compiled 40 points on 11-of-24 shooting. The most impressive part of Kennedy's game on Thursday was his ability to get to the free-throw line - he nailed all 12 of his free throws in the win.

Looking to bounce back from their loss to the hometown Reno Bighorns last night, Erie came out strong early with the help of Henry Sims, an undrafted prospect out of Georgetown, who played in the preseason with the New York Knicks. He had eight points in the first half to put the BayHawks ahead, 42-35 at halftime. He capped off his evening with 11 points and 10 rebounds. His free-throw with 4:20 remaining in the game put the BayHawks up 80-79, and Erie would not trail the remainder of the game.

The Legends were led by Melvin Ely and Sean Singletary as they both tallied 17 points in the losing effort. Texas struggled to hit their groove from downtown. They only converted on 6-of-31 attempts from beyond the arc.

Erie and Texas will both return to the hardwood for home games on Saturday evening. Erie will welcome in Fort Wayne and Texas will play host to Austin.
