Erie, Pennsylvania, Tuesday, April 3 - The Erie BayHawks bested the Springfield Armor in a pivotal Eastern Conference match-up on Tuesday night by a final score of 110-108. The win boosts Erie (27-21) ahead of Springfield (27-21) in the standings. BayHawks forward Joey Graham was able to bury a jumper from the top of the key with 0.8 seconds remaining to put Erie ahead. Lance Hurdle's fade away three-point attempt rolled off the rim at the buzzer to seal the deal for Erie.
The game started with the teams trading the lead for the first six minutes. At the end of the first quarter, it was Erie that held a seven point advantage, behind eight points and five rebounds from Kyle Goldcamp. The BayHawks extended their lead to 11 before Springfield battled back to take a one point advantage into the intermission. Goldcamp led all scorers at the break with 18 points and L.D. Williams paced the Armor with 12 first half points.
The game was tied midway through the third before Erie pulled away and took a seven point lead into the final frame. The BayHawks were able to shoot 61% from the field in the third, compared to Springfield's 37%. Erie's advantage ballooned to 14 with eight minutes left in the game before Springfield started chipping away at the lead. The Armor went on a 13-6 run and tied the game at 108 with two JamesOn Curry free throws with 33.7 seconds remaining. Keith McLeod missed a fade away jump shot ten seconds to go but Erie was able to grab the rebound and call a timeout. After receiving a pass beyond the three point line, Graham broke to his right and knocked down a step back jumper with less than a second remaining. The Armor got a good look in the corner as the clock expired but Hurdle's shot did not fall and Erie prevailed, 110-108.
Graham led the BayHawks with 23 points and also added seven rebounds. Goldcamp pitched in with another double-double, adding 19 points and 11 rebounds. Five other BayHawks recorded double digit scoring efforts. The Armor were paced by Curry's 25 points. L.D. Williams added 23 and three other Armor players also scored double figures.
The BayHawks will return home for yet another critical match-up against the Canton Charge on Friday at 7:00 PM. Friday is also Fan Appreciation Night, presented by Penelec. The first 1,000 fans through the doors will receive a free Kyle Goldcamp bobble head. Springfield will travel to Austin to face the Toros on Friday.
