Mobile BayBears News Release

Jackson, Tenn. - Jake Gautreau's two-out single up the middle drove in Rico Washington from third base to break a 1-1 tie and lift the Mobile BayBears to a 2-1 victory over the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx on Friday night. The win, Mobile's first extra inning victory in eight tries this season, improves the BayBears second half record to 17-15. They are in a three-way tie with Birmingham and Huntsville for first place in the Southern League's Western Division.

Mobile broke a scoreless tie in the top of the ninth inning. Jon Knott was hit by a pitch, went to second on Danny Bravo's sacrifice bunt, and scored on a one-out single by Humberto Quintero.

West Tenn tied the game in the bottom of the inning against Mobile closer Rusty Tucker. Tucker allowed back-to-back one out singles to Aron Weston and Lukas McKnight and hit Brendan Harris with a pitch to load the bases. Ryan Theriot's ground ball to third skipped by Bobby Scales for an error as Weston scored to tie the game and the bases remained loaded. Tucker got Donnie Hood on a shallow fly out to right as the runners held, and he ended the inning by getting Matt Creighton to pop to second to send the game to extra innings.

Washington led off the Mobile 10th with a double to center. He was sacrificed to third by Scales. After Knott was hit by a pitch, Bravo struck out for the second out. But Gautreau followed with a hard grounder through the infield to bring in Washington.

Alan Webb pitched a perfect bottom of the 10th for his first save. Tucker (2-3) was credited with the win.

Mobile starting pitcher Chris Oxspring threw seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits. He walked four and struck out five.

Mobile plays at Birmingham at 7:00 PM on Saturday. Duncan McAdoo (3-6) will pitch for Mobile.
