Mobile BayBears News Release
PEARL, MS - The BayBears tied their 2007 mark for hits in a game, with 17 in a 10-7 win over Mississippi Friday. The BayBears sent nine batters to the plate in a five-run fifth inning against Mississippi starter Ryan Baerlocher (0-1), who suffered the loss. The BayBears have now won two straight games, and sit in third place, ten games behind first place Jacksonville.
The Braves had the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the eighth, loading the bases off Mobile reliever Matt Elliott. The BayBears brought in Mark Rosen with the bases loaded and a four run lead with no outs, and just one Mississippi runner crossed home in the inning. Rosen struck out the side in the ninth for his sixth save, which now leads the team.
Offensively, every BayBear starter had at least one hit, and six had a multi-hit game. Cesar Nicolas was 3-for-5 with two RBI's, and Javier Brito was also 3-for-5. Josh Ford was 2-for-4 with two doubles and Emilio Bonifacio, Wilkin Castillo and Chris Rahl added two hits each.
The BayBears and Braves play Saturday at 7:05, with Mobile RHP Max Scherzer (2-4) starting against Mississippi LHP Kelvin Villa (7-9). The BayBears next play at home on Monday, August 20th against the Tennessee Smokies, the Double-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs.
