BayBears Plate Late Runs But Fall in Series Opener

MOBILE, Ala. - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, dropped the series opener 7-4 against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Saturday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.

The BayBears (51-52 overall, 14-21 second half) could pull no closer than three runs behind after trailing 5-0 in the middle of the sixth inning. Mobile plated a pair of runs in the sixth and eighth, but Jacksonville (40-64 overall, 12-24 second half) slugged three home runs with 14 total hits in the game.

Sharif Othman and Justin Twine both took Jose Rodriguez (6-9) deep, while Brian Schales added a solo home run in the seventh.

Meanwhile, Nick Neidert (9-6) was dominant on the mound for the Jumbo Shrimp. He recorded a quality start, giving up two runs on five hits with five strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings pitched.

Roberto Baldoquin had the only multi-hit game for the BayBears, with a pair of doubles and two RBIs.

The BayBears continue the five-game home series against Jacksonville Sunday at 5:05 p.m. CDT. Right-handed pitcher Jason Alexander (0-5, 4.76 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Max Duval (2-10, 7.32 ERA) for the Jumbo Shrimp.
