Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (57-49) surrendered five unanswered runs before losing to the Jackson Generals (57-48), 5-2, on Star Wars Night at Riverwalk Stadium. Montgomery starting pitcher Sam McWilliams posted his third consecutive quality start at home, striking out seven in six innings.
McWilliams was sharp early. The right-hander retired six of the first seven Generals en route to a pair of scoreless innings.
In the second, the Biscuits' offense jumped on Jackson starter Taylor Widener. A lead-off double by Dalton Kelly ignited Montgomery's bats. Kelly was the first of three Biscuits to reach base consecutively, and he came around to score on a Peter Maris RBI-double. Montgomery would double its advantage to 2-0 via an RBI-groundout by Thomas Milone.
The Generals answered in the third, starting with a lead-off single from Marty Herum. After McWilliams induced a force out, Kevin Medrano sliced the deficit in half with an RBI-double.
Despite Widener and McWilliams trading zeroes, Jackson tied the score on Rudy Flores' 13th home run of the season in the sixth.
The Generals, following McWilliams departure, feasted on the Biscuits' bullpen. Jackson plated three runs in the final two innings, including a Jamie Westbrook RBI-single charged to Dalton Moats (2-3) in the eighth.
With a 5-2 edge, Jackson's Tommy Eveld took over for Kirby Bellow (5-2) and retired six-of-seven Biscuits' hitters to seal the victory.
The Biscuits continue a five-game homestand against the Jackson Generals at 5:05 p.m. on Sunday, which features Bark in the Park and a Biscuits' backpack giveaway. Montgomery will offer a bullpen day while the Generals are scheduled to start Justin Donatella (4-6).
The series also includes Golden Biscuits Monday on July 30, Dough Fest on Tuesday, July 31, and Military Wednesday and Business Person Specials on August 1.
