CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - With two outs and two men in scoring position, Josh Ford hit a two-hopper to third that Travis Denker couldn't handle, bringing home Ryan Wheeler and Taylor Harbin to lift the BayBears past the Chattanooga Lookouts, 7-5 in 12 innings, on Sunday afternoon at AT&T Field.
Wheeler and Harbin each singled with one out in the top of the 12th against Josh Wall (3-3). A passed ball moved both men over a bag before Ford's bouncer put the BayBears (56-38, 18-6) on top. Ryan Cook (S, 13) worked around a leadoff double in the bottom of the 12th to secure the BayBears' third victory of the series.
Chattanooga (49-45, 14-10) grabbed the initial advantage in the bottom of the first against Patrick Corbin. Scott Van Slyke doubled home Elian Herrera for the first run of the ballgame while Brian Cavazos-Galvez made it a three-run frame with a two-run homer.
In the second, the BayBears began to claw back against Allen Webster. Jake Elmore smacked an RBI single to score Harbin while a sac bunt from Corbin allowed Marc Krauss to come home. The BayBears evened the score at 3-3 in the third as Krauss cracked a single to draw in Wheeler.
In the fifth, another run-scoring knock by Krauss gave the BayBears their first lead of the game, but the Lookouts quickly jumped back on top in the bottom of the fifth. Webster singled in front of an Alfredo Silverio two-bagger while Hector Gimenez knocked home both men with a single to center.
Adam Eaton cranked an opposite-field homer in the sixth to make it 5-5. Mike DeMark, Bryan Woodall, Clay Zavada and Billy Spottiswood (4-2) all tossed scoreless relief to keep the game level into extra innings.
The BayBears finish their six-game road trip at AT&T Field on Monday night as they take on the Lookouts at 6:15 central time. Right-hander Jarrod Parker (8-6) will start for the BayBears against righty Nathan Eovaldi (6-5). The BayBears are back home on Wednesday night to open a five-game set with the Birmingham Barons at 7:05.
