Mobile BayBears News Release

Greenville, SC – The Mobile BayBears found themselves in an early 4-0 hole Thursday against the Greenville Braves in the opening game of their four-game series. But the BayBears chipped into the lead as the two teams went back and forth for eight innings, before Mobile scored twice in the top of the ninth inning to go ahead for the first time on the night, 8-7, winning by that same score.

The game marked the first time this season that the BayBears have won a game that they trailed after the seventh inning (1-8).

Thursday was also a big night for Mobile's Humberto Quintero. The BayBears catcher tied a team record with five base hits in the game. His fifth knock proved to be the game winner in the ninth as he drove in Rich Gomez with a bases-loaded single. Gomez got out of rut himself Thursday. The leftfielder went 3-for-5 on the night, scoring three runs and driving in three more, with two doubles and his second homerun of the season.

The win went to reliever, Bryan Gaal (1-3). Gaal threw a scoreless eighth inning, striking out two. Rusty Tucker earned his seventh save of the season, in as many opportunities, as he worked a perfect ninth.

Mobile and Greenville will play game two of their series Friday night at 6:15. LHP Cory Stewart (2-2; 3.81), winner of his last two starts, will start on the mound for the BayBears against the Braves RHP Matt Belisle (1-3; 5.11).
