BayBears fall in home finale

Mobile, Ala. – The BayBears led early in their home finale Thursday night at Hank Aaron Stadium. But the wheels fell off in the top of the sixth as the Chattanooga Lookouts broke open a 2-2 game with six runs off of reliever R.D. Spiehs and cruised to a 9-5 victory.

The Lookouts sent 10 batters to the plate in the sixth with seven straight reaching base and six straight batters scored. In all in the inning Chattanooga scored six runs, five earned, on four hits and one BayBear error to take an 8-2 lead.

The BayBears closed the gap in the bottom of the seventh as they scored three runs on four hits. Jake Gautreau hammered a two-run homerun that scored Todd Donovan. After Joe Gerber beat out an infield single, Joe Hastings doubled him home to trim the lead to 8-5.

Chattanooga finished the scoring in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Bryan Anderson off of reliever Jose Nunez.

Gautreau had four hits and three RBI on the night. J.J. Furmaniak also hit a homerun for the BayBears, his third of the season was a solo shot to left.

The BayBears now head to Jackson, Tennessee to finish out the 2003 season against the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx. Justin Germano (2-4; 4.24) will get the start for the BayBears against West Tenn's Jae-Kuk Ryu (1-5; 6.24). Game time for Friday is set for 7:05.
